Say “Hello” to Easier Adjustability with Voice Actuation
These days, everyone is talking to their tech and appliances. With smartphones, smart TVs, smart cars, and even smart kitchen tools, innovators have come a long way with voice-activated devices and have benefited many lives as a result. For those with joint issues like arthritis or medical conditions that limit mobility, voice actuation technology can mean the difference between pain and comfort.
With this in mind, the team at Flexabed knew our customers could greatly benefit from a voice actuation system with our adjustable beds. Not only would it provide hands-free control of the bed’s adjustability, but it would also allow our customers to remain in a comfortable position while they position their bed exactly as they like.
We got to work, and we’re so excited to announce our new voice actuation system can soon be added onto our Premier and Hi-Low beds! With most voice activation systems having a name or persona, like Siri with Apple products, our system comes with two optional voices: Max or Susan. You can change your system’s name easily with a vocal command to your preference.
Here’s how the system works:

A voice control device, shaped like a hockey puck, is connected to your Flexabed frame at the factory.

After setting up your Flexabed, the voice control device should be placed on a nightstand or as close to your Flexabed as possible in order to understand commands.

The voice actuation system is programmed to be called “Max” at the factory. To wake up your device, say, “Hello Max.”

Once the system is awake, you can speak any of the following commands to control your bed’s adjustability:
- Head Up
- Head Down
- Foot Up
- Foot Down
- Lift Up (for Hi-Low function)
- Lift Down (for Hi-Low function)
- Stop (stops all motors from moving)
- Flat Position
- Position 1, 2, 3 or 4 (i.e. to go to memory
- position 3, say “Position Three”)
- Save Position 1, 2, 3 or 4 (i.e. to save current position as position 4, say “Save Position Four”)
- Massage Start
- Massage Stop
- Wave 1, 2, 3 or 4 (i.e. to go to massage wave position 2, say “Wave Two” Level 1, 2, 3 or 4 (this command is for massage intensity)
- Timer Ten, Twenty or Thirty (for massage timer)
- Lights On
- Lights Off
- Toggle Light
- Volume Up or Down (controls the volume of Max or Susan’s voice)
- Max Volume
- Minimum Volume
- Silent Mode (turns off Max or Susan’s voice)
- Switch Name To Susan (if current setting is Max)
- Switch Name To Max (if current setting is Susan)
To sweeten the deal, we’ve enabled our voice actuation device with wireless charging capabilities for a 2 in 1 experience. While you ask Max or Susan to adjust settings on your Flexabed, your phone can wirelessly charge atop the device. Additionally, wired phone charging is enabled as well through the voice activation device’s USB port.
Keep Your Path Lit with Motion-Sensored Under Bed Lighting
We’ve all been there – you wake up in the middle of the night to get a drink or use the bathroom, and you stumble across the dark bedroom to try and find your way around. For those of us with chronic pain or mobility issues, walking in a dark room without any lighting can become challenging or even dangerous in the case of falls.
That’s why we are rolling out a brand new motion-sensor underbed lighting feature for our Hi Low and Premier beds. This technology will be an optional add-on when you purchase either of these bed models. The underbed lights are installed at the factory, equipped with motion-sensing devices that detect movement. If the sensors detect any motion, the lights will turn on automatically for a 2-minute period before shutting off automatically.
Our motion-sensor underbed lighting is perfect for anyone who finds themselves getting up at night frequently or anyone who wishes for better nighttime lighting as needed. In addition to motion-sensor technology, the underbed lights are also color customizable. Choose from red, blue, green, or white lights to suit the ambiance of your bedroom.
Your Bed, Your Way with New Remote Controls
Our remote-controlled beds are our bread and butter, and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve and enhance their functionality to better support our customers’ preferences. If you’ve been longing for more features and more programmable options for your Flexabed remote, this one’s for you.
We have updated our remote controls to feature several new settings, including:
- 4 memory reprogrammable buttons to automatically adjust your Flexabed to your saved preferred positions
- A flashlight button to help you see clearly at night
- A button to control underbed motion-sensor lighting (if added onto bed purchase)
- Massage control buttons
Use Your Phone as a Remote with Bluetooth Connectivity & App Controls
We couldn’t call our new features “smart” without an app, right? We are introducing Bluetooth connectivity and a brand new app to control your Flexabed’s adjustability directly from your phone. The app is fittingly called Okin SmartBed, and all it takes is pairing your phone to your Flexabed in order to get started.
How to Pair Your Phone to Your Flexabed:

Download the Okin SmartBed app on your iPhone or Android.

Once the SmartBed app is downloaded, open the app and follow the prompts to create your account with Okin.

Enable Bluetooth connectivity on your phone in your device settings.

Navigate to the “POSITION” screen.

Click on the 3 horizontal bars in the upper left corner.

At the bottom of the screen, select the “Bluetooth” option.

You should see a device named “SmartBed” in the device list. Click on the Smart Bed device to pair your device with your bed.
- If the “SmartBed” is not found in the device list, press the back button to return to the “Position” screen and then re-enter the device screen by clicking on the three horizontal bars.

Once connected, you can use the app to swipe through 3 different setting screens and control your bed’s adjustability and features. The 3 settings are:
- Position: this menu contains all of the various controls for changing the position of your bed
- Massage: this menu contains all of the control functions for your bed’s massage system
- Alarm: in this menu, you can set alarms to automatically wake you by using a control function on the bed such as moving to a memory position or activating the massage system
