Recent
research by doctors at John’s Hopkins University showed a possible link
between interrupted sleep and pain inhibition in women.
The
study showed that frequent interruptions of the sleep cycle, similar to
those encountered by health care workers on call and parents caring for
small children, alter the body’s systems that regulate and control
pain. The study did not find the same effect in those members of this
study who simply delayed their bedtime.
Better Sleep in the News
"Sleep
disruption needs to be taken seriously. It is known that certain forms
of sleep disruption such as obstructive sleep apnea convey extensive
cardiovascular risk. We now know that sleep disruption is a potential
factor in heart disease even in the average person.”
