According to the University of
Maryland Medical Center, if you have trouble sleeping, you should
re-evaluate your sleep routine.
Allowing the time you go to
sleep and the time you get up to vary day to day will ensure you will
be tired. Since the body grows accustomed to sleeping and waking at
certain times, choosing a time to sleep and wake and sticking to it
will positively affect your sleep cycle. Establishing a pre-sleep
ritual like a warm bath or a brief period of reading helps signal the
brain that it is time to sleep.
Better Sleep in the News
"Napping
in general benefits heart functioning, hormonal maintenance, and cell
repair. When you wake up, your neurons perform the same function as
before, but now faster and with more accuracy."
– Dr. Sara Mednick, a scientist at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies
